I see Morningstar 45 amp and 60 amp
Pwm controllers. That look like the mppt
Controller. But a friend of mine said he has a Morningstar TriStar 30 amp pwm. Has anyone heard of these? I can't find one listed anywhere
The one Im asking about looks like this.

2kw array 6 345 q cells  make sky blue 60 cc
 6 230ah GC @36 volts
18 amp accusense charger. 3650 champion

Yes, MorningStar still has the Tristar MPPT 30 Amp unit. Here is our host's listing:

So they never made a 30 amp pwm. Like the one in the pic?

I wouldn't be shocked to learn someone other than Morningstar made a 30a that looks like MS made it.  I've seen other knock off gear whose makers weren't shy about blatently copying.
    Off-grid.

Looks identical to a 45 tristar pwm even has all the Morningstar labels  but with 30 amp?

A bit off topic.  with 100f temperature
What would you recommend as the lowest vmp voltage to charge a 24 volt battery using pwm?

Im guessing since 12 volt panels are 17-18 vmp. Then would it be  34-36 for a 24 volt battery? Anyone.

That's correct for lead acid batteries they need a VMP higher than the maximum battery voltage required  to enable current to flow, at higher battery temperatures the voltages required would be lower unfortunately so is the PVvoltage in high ambient temperatures, this is why 72 cell are recommended as the 60 cell panels are marginal, especially with FLA where equalization may be required.

The Morningstar string calculator will clarify this if 60 cell panels are input for a 24V nominal system, however they don't include battery chemistry into the calculation. With LFP the story is not the same, 60 cell panels would work just fine since the voltage required is lower and there is no need for equalization . Perhaps thy should update the calculator to include this,  then the use of AGM, which don't need EQ may allow their use. This was a mistake I made in the beginning, although my observations were that it can work, but I did change to MPPT for the 60 cell and use 72 with the PWM.
1500W, 6× Schutten 250W Poly panels , Schneider MPPT 60 150 CC, Schneider SW 2524 inverter, 400Ah LFP 24V nominal battery with Battery Bodyguard BMS
Second system 1890W  3 × 300W No name brand poly, 3×330 Sunsolar Poly panels, Morningstar TS 60 PWM controller, no name 2000W inverter 400Ah LFP 24V nominal battery with Daly BMS, used for water pumping and day time air conditioning.

Look up Fangpusun. They have cloned many Outback, Victron and many other higher end solar products.

2.1 Kw Suntech 175 mono, Classic 200, Trace SW 4024 ( 15 years old  but brand new out of sealed factory box Jan. 2015), Bogart Tri-metric,  460 Ah. 24 volt LiFePo4 battery bank. Plenty of Baja Sea of Cortez sunshine.

Fangpusun said that this is no longer available. So probably a knock off.

No such thing,  only  45 and 60A,  30A TriStar is MPPT, the 30A PWM is Proscar which looks completely different.
