Emergency Fix. SunSaver Broke

Help.

My Sun Saver 6 stopped putting out. Voltage to battery is zero. Input voltage is 17.6 V from single 85 Watt panel. Can I bypass the controller for a few days without problems?

Thanks

Put a 5 amp capable blocking diode in series with panel. (I assume you are talking about a 12v battery)

Check battery voltage during day to make sure it doesn't get much over 14.2 vdc.

Bypassing the controller is OK, if you watch the voltage with a meter. Gets tricky if you have a expensive AGM battery, check that meter often.

On a working controller, you can bypass with a jumper from PV + to Bat + but if your controller is broken, you just might fry a fuse or worse. Any internal controller fuses you should check ?

When you say "stopped putting out", how did you measure it?

If you try to just measure it with no battery connected to the controller, it does not mean much, as the controller has to have a battery hooked up for it to turn on and operate.

uh huh! The OP must have battery voltage on the CC ! If the fuse is open, why did it open?
