Hi , is it better to put 2 panels together ln series to form 24 volt to the mppt change controller to change a 12 volt battery bank or does it make no difference

Unless you have some shading issues where the panels are located Yes, series wire.
When you say MPPT that brings up the question, Is your controller a true MPPT controller? There's a lot of bogus Chinese controllers that even have MPPT on the face of the controller.

Yes, it is not only better, but necessary. PV in should be at least twice battery voltage to properly charge with an MPPT controller.

Thanks littleharbor 2 it is in fact a cheap Chinese make , should I be worried , can it ruin the batteries if it fails

There are so many knockoffs claiming to be MPPT controllers, some are actually MPPT, others are PWM masquerading as such, but are PWM with a high voltage threshold, please post some links to the controller you have, often more eyes looking can help determine what it is you have.
