Windows 10 laptop is the slowest computer I have ever owned.

I have been on Win10 for ~7 years. Lenovo Yoga 3, SSD & 8(?) megs. It was rather expensive 6 years ago.... I don't have any speed complaints about the machine or OS. Any local .exe stuff is just fine for speed. I thoroughly agree with the advertising complaints. There is no way easy way of measuring the overhead for that and the other junk. What I have done that is a really good speed improvement is a blocker for ads, spam, trackers and other junk. A year is so back I moved over to AdGuard. It installs and works at the system level so it covers everything. I liked it so much I paid the literal few dollars to support a good project. It's pretty clear that speed is really affected when bandwidth is hogged by stuff in the background. Also I also have an extension that blocks autoplay video that is also a bandwidth hog and hugely slows stuff down.
The computer is on 24x7 and uploads our weather data every few minutes. Also the OB Mate3 uploads and then OpticsRE download of almost real time system status - over a satellite connection (Starlink). And there is the DW's chromebook and both our phones and also the TV (rarely stream but it's connected). We don't have a usable cell signal so Starling gives us HD cell/video phone calls without a hiccup with everything else at the same time.
You might look at what's stealing you bandwidth before you complain about the computer.Off Grid. Two systems: 1) 2925w panels, OB VFXR3648, FM80, FNDC, Victron BMV-712, Mate3s, 240 xformer, four SimpliPHI 3.8; 2) 780w, Morningstar 30a, Grundfos switch, controller and AC/DC pump, 8 T105. Honda EU7000is w/AGS. Champion 3100. HF 4550, Miller Bobcat. -
I understand your frustration with your slow Windows 10 laptop. It can be annoying when your computer doesn't perform well, especially when you rely on it for work or entertainment. I had a similar issue with my old laptop. After some research and trying various solutions, I found that upgrading to Windows 11 made a noticeable difference. If you're open to trying this, you might want to look into getting a cheap windows 11 pro key. It's an affordable way to upgrade your system without buying a new device. I noticed that Windows 11 has better performance and stability. It seems to manage resources more efficiently, which can help improve the speed of your laptop.

not windows 10 is slow....your internet is slow
2 different things
I still have a windows 7 computer.....and a windows 11 pc that I am on now....running my internet from a mofi5500 that uses cell phone towers
my speed is 40Mbps
the pc is a custom build asus crosshair dark hero
the neat thing about celluar connection to the internet, is that you dont have a public IP...no way to track your traffic...and its relatively fast12 panels 6 series 2 parallel, 1 XW60-150 CC, 16 trojan 6V batteries 8 series 2 parallel, 1 XW 6848 pro, 1 5500 watt champion inverter generator( I know...I need a 12Kw ) -
Technically, as far as I know, every Internet package needs an IP Address, which is sent through the Internet as clear text.
Which points back either to your internet device, or at least, to a service provider which will log an IP address to User ID on their system.
If you wish to see what your IP address says about you... Click this link (very basic information):
https://www.iplocation.net/ip-lookup (your basic IP address and location)
https://www.iplocation.net/myip (more "personal" information, and in my case, more accurate location)
Granted, a bit more difficult to track location/customer information, but "anyone" with a warrant can do that.
And note that there are "static" and "dynamic"... Static are fixed and usually cost more money per money and typically used for companies that have "web applications". Most of the rest of us have dynamic IP addresses which change on occasion (days/months/whatever).
Unless you are using a VPN that does not "save" the customer<=>IP address (such as a typical VPN provider).
End to End encryption is the only way to prevent "clear text" hacking/tracking/etc. attacks (to the ability to decrypt data stream or do other things like "man in the middle" attacks). But that still exposes the source and destination of data packets.
Today, many (some/most/?) websites do end to end encryption... Just look (and/or click) on the the icon just to the left of the URL (may be a pad lock if encrypted, or click to more info).
And even commercial VPN services simply "dump from a bulk public VPN pipe" your data with sanitized IP addresses and the otherwise "raw data" (your data, as you encrypt or not) to the final destination.
There are other ways that can be used to identify your actual system--Many times to the individual computer:
https://www.howtogeek.com/735535/what-is-browser-fingerprinting-and-how-can-you-block-it/
Your browser configuration information (screen size, some apps, etc.) can be "close to" or unique.
Balsically, if another website (or typically advertisers) has "fingerprinted" your system and tied that to you (credit card, address, etc.), it is not easy to bypass.
"Finger print" your computer:
https://www.amiunique.org/fingerprint
I am using a very generic Chrome laptop here, and have done "little" to customize my Chrome browser... Yet I am unique among 360,000 computers tested by this website:
And there are 'web beacons'--Again used by advertisers (and who else) to track users:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_beacon
My usual suggestion to kids and friends, don't put anything unencrypted on the Internet that you would not like to see on a sign next to the freeway...
