California tax deed auctions worthwhile?
Florida tax deed process is horrendous. Never doing that again.

I would avoid California--Unless you have a specific need to be here (I am born and raised in California for almost 7 decades, my wife immigrated here, have our families here). High Taxes, poor energy policies that also raised costs of energy (near $5.00 a gallon for gasoline--Highest in the nation, and what do you think of $0.40 to $0.50 per kWH for electricity). And a nanny state set of governments.
And yes, one of the counties is mine that is implementing the new mask mandate. They threatened us to stay inside, closed businesses down, and left $10,000,000 of protective gear outside in the rain during "COVID". S**** them.

I can certainly afford to stay here thru end of life... But every few weeks (if not more often during "legislative season", another dumb law is passed. This latest was against the First Amendment and "deep fake parodies).

Also, watch out, California has implemented a 10 year "exit tax" on anyone with more than $30,000,000 in assets (as we know, those numbers will be "adjusted" in the future, let alone what happens with inflation). And that includes taxes on unrealized capital gains (so far, other states and federal governments have failed to pass that nasty set of taxes--yet):

It sure is beautiful though…I could see 65 on loaded trailers at times. A terrible accident recently forced traffic into a lengthy detour involving washboard roads. Managed to loosen up a couple boards that I was fortunate to catch early enough.A friend wanted 4 blocking boards for his semis. Happy to help but it changed the load a bit. Re-adjusted in the dark and bit tired to boot.80 psi tires give a bouncier ride behind the tires as well. Plus someone has stolen about a hundred trailer straps from me. Have to keep buying more and more. They have not shown up on more recently installed security cameras. I agree whole heartedly with @Marc Kurth !I am also an "escapee" from San Diego county. Taxation rates on retirement income was enough already.I would hate to pay the rates for electricity that my kids pay there. Thier power bill for the same Kwh consumption is 4.5 times the amount I pay here in WA state.

About to be hit with a $0.65 per gallon fuel tax increase (gasoline around $4-5 per gallon now, around $0.50+ per gallon price increases up to a total of possibly $1.80 over 4 years or so) this coming new year (and several years into the future increases)... All setup by the California Air Resources Board--Hmmm... I don't ever remember voting any of these people into "office"...
https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/aboutThe California Air Resources Board
CARB is charged with protecting the public from the harmful effects of air pollution and developing programs and actions to fight climate change. From requirements for clean cars and fuels to adopting innovative solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, California has pioneered a range of effective approaches that have set the standard for effective air and climate programs for the nation, and the world.
Mission
CARB's mission is to promote and protect public health, welfare, and ecological resources through effective reduction of air pollutants while recognizing and considering effects on the economy. CARB is the lead agency for climate change programs and oversees all air pollution control efforts in California to attain and maintain health-based air quality standards.
Organization of the Board
Board Members
The California Air Resources Board consists of 16 members. 12 are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the state Senate. The 12 members include six who serve on local air districts, four experts in fields that shape air quality rules, two public members and one, the Chair, who serves as the only full-time member. The Governor can choose any of the board members to serve as the Chair.
The other four include two who represent environmental justice communities (one appointed by the Senate and the other by the Assembly) and two nonvoting members appointed for Legislative oversight, one each from the Senate and Assembly.
In July 2018, the Board established staggered six-year terms for voting members pursuant to AB 197.
More Information
Board Staff
The work of the Board is supported by a diverse professional staff of scientists, engineers, economists, lawyers and policy makers who collectively make up one of the world’s most respected environmental organizations.

Bill, I read about that little maneuver by the CARB and you are spot on: You didn't vote for them but they wield incredible power - often on a whim.I was just complaining about the cost of filling my truck and boat at $2.38 per gallon. We often visit our youngest daughter who lives on Fort Moore, GA (Was Benning) and we prefer to make the 700 mile drive as opposed to flying. I don't think that I could afford to burn much fuel at CA prices. I did notice a whole more red on the CA map during the election.MarcI always have more questions than answers. That's the nature of life.

Don't worry about fuel prices in California and difficulty in paying the high prices... Another refinery closing in California (something like 8% of total California refinery capacity).

No fuel to buy? Rationing? Electric Vehicles? (where do these government leaders think electricity comes from?). What?

Would things be better for most if Cali, Oregon and Wash. simply joined Canada? Not that it would be allowed. In career years I was on an international team, several of which lived to the north across the US/Canada border. I got to know them well. In addition to their Canadian tax load they all carried supplemental health policies so if there was a need they could cross into the US for immediate care. We made pretty good money. The Canadian folk didn't see the same money I did in my salary. There are a LOT of people who don't have the luxury of affording that expense. Where is the fairness in that brand of socialism?
Yeah, beat me up, but I'll live with pride - even on the left coast - before I want anything of Canada.Off Grid.
