do I need to junk this inverter and go to a victron inverter?  It appears to have a shorted out mother board. very sad

Is it a CSW 4048 or as you wrote a SW 4048 ?  How do you know the "mother board is shorted out" ?

50 amp shore power is 220 split phase. Which SW do you have? The original ones are only 110 single phase.

2.1 Kw Suntech 175 mono, Classic 200, Trace SW 4024 ( 15 years old  but brand new out of sealed factory box Jan. 2015), Bogart Tri-metric,  460 Ah. 24 volt LiFePo4 battery bank. Plenty of Baja Sea of Cortez sunshine.

Hmm I think you are a little short on being right on shore power.
In all the marina's I have been the typical 50A service is 120vac or in Europe 250 volt single phase.

    Didn't realize that. I'm picturing a 4 prong plug.

I see 3 prong plugs as well. Wow, that's a lot of power for a single phase.

Very Big boats/ships can be wired for whatever the Marina or Dock can supply. Just takes an electrician to wire it up.
Single phase is the norm because that is what is on the Yacht, in most all cases.
    Georgia for sure!
