The New Ford F-150's Onboard Generator

To make that happen, Ford needed to provide a lot more power than a normal 12-volt battery system can spare. "Right now, the traditional outlets provide 150 or 400 watts of power. So basically, we are providing like five times more than that," Nigar Sultana, the engineer in charge of Pro Power Onboard, said.
Three different onboard generator systems are available. F-150s with conventional non-hybrid drivetrains get a 2.0-kW system, while hybrid trucks get upgraded to 2.4 kW or, optionally, a massive 7.2 kW of power, made possible by the hybrid's 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack. Ford claims that the top-spec 7.2-kW system can power a plasma cutter, TiG welder, chop saw, air compressor, angle grinder, and work light, simultaneously. That mobile welding shop can run for 32 hours continuously on a full tank, making all-day, heavy-duty work possible. If you don't need that much wattage, Ford says the 2.4-kW system can run a jackhammer or a mobile theater setup complete with a projector, loudspeakers, and popcorn machine for up to 85 hours.

What does everyone think?
I sell Fords, and wonder how many Off Grid people would take something like this. We don't sell Hybrids at this time, but we do sell a lot of trucks to Cottagers, Tradespeople, Recreational Market.

Never ! We easily do that now for one hell of alot less money. Nice Truck and for the right person with the income to pay for it and the need for that, good for the economy.
A 7 to 9KW genset at costco is on sale for $750 plus tax. They fit easily into any truck.
A home offgrid power system I use often has 6.8 kw of power, and can surge to 12kw. it can be stacked to 27+kw continuous.

Marketing hype at its finest, Ford has used every slogan and gimmick to premote it's lackluster products, 100 000 mile spark plug replacement! ?........if you have the time to dismantle half the engine to get at them and hope the spark plugs don't break whilst trying to remove them resulting in possible cylinder head removal. Wouldn't this directly translate to any other claims? Blow smoke up someone else's ass Ford.. ...an opinion1500W, 6× Schutten 250W Poly panels , Schneider MPPT 60 150 CC, Schneider SW 2524 inverter, 400Ah LFP 24V nominal battery with Battery Bodyguard BMS

Laser cut platinum plugs have long had a 100,000 mile service life. Honda and many others have done this for at least 15 years. Ford is a great company but this truck will not get them into the offgrid power system market. No offense to the OP, Good Luck!"we go where power lines don't" Sierra Nevada mountain area

The issue isn't with with the spark plugs being able to endure 100K miles in general, it's the particular 2 piece Motorcraft plugs used by Ford, which were known to break when removed, leaving the threaded section in the head, this is common in the 3 valve Triton engine. The use of better plugs such as NGK would probably have made this a non issue but likely cost more, even $1 per unit would result in millions over the entire production run.
Access to the plugs themselves is a nightmare which is probably the rationale behind the use of 100K mile plugs in the first place, so, the burden is placed on the end user when the warranty expires.1500W, 6× Schutten 250W Poly panels , Schneider MPPT 60 150 CC, Schneider SW 2524 inverter, 400Ah LFP 24V nominal battery with Battery Bodyguard BMS

The Spark Plug issue was resolved by 2008, so if you are comparing vehicles of that era, they all had issues.
Funny thing is, I was still selling GM's in 2003, and actually seen an Ad in a Mag about that Spark Plug and Ford bragging about it. It looked very different, long, thin 9/16" Plug Wrench!.
Anyways. back to the Inverter. The 7.2Kw and 2.4Kw, of course uses the Hybrid Battery but the 2Kw uses 2 separate Batteries, and a Separate Alt. @ 24v. Separate most likely because of the Electric Steering. (they don't want power robbed from that system).
I could see a lot of uses for it, Travel Freezer, Power Tools, Camping/Tailgating.
I wonder Who and What it is made up from? -
Many/most people have no idea how electrical energy, and the storage thereof works, to advertise all the devices one could potentially be used is misleading, particularly if used on a regular basis such as a trade person. Every battery has a cycle lifespan, the more abused the shorter the cycle count, would the battery be replaced under warranty if used/abused?. Since the battery in a hybrid vehicle is a functional part of the drive train, there is too much ambiguity, they should be, in my opinion, seperate systems, one not affecting the other.
No doubt all this is covered in the fine print which will absolve the manufacturer of liability should there be a warranty claim wether legitimate or otherwise, you bought the vehicle it's your problem now, but we will be happy to sell the replacement parts at marked up prices to keep you on the road.1500W, 6× Schutten 250W Poly panels , Schneider MPPT 60 150 CC, Schneider SW 2524 inverter, 400Ah LFP 24V nominal battery with Battery Bodyguard BMS
