Bulk charging with generator help

I've been using my 3500k watt generator to bulk charge through my xantrex inverter. Everything has been fine until recent. Now, when I need to charge my batteries via generator, the generator loads up and then trips the breaker switch on the generator after about 15 seconds. I've researched more internet than I ever wanted bout this topic. Any help would be more than grateful!!!

Exactly what generator, charge controller and battery do you have.
Sounds like the breaker is doing its job.

cheap circuit breakers wear out and start to trip at lighter and lighter loads.

A clamp on rms AC ammeter can measure the current (ie, verify that the circuit breaker is correct).

I am available for custom hardware/firmware development
