Charging problem with xw6048

Hi Everyone,

I have a problem with one of the new xantrex xw 6048 hybrid inverter /charger.

The problem is the XW inverter /charger AC 1 Led is not glowing and charging the batteries when the grid supply is available( it is functioning with battery in inverter mode
I don’t know why?
  • When The grid voltage is below 205 Vac.(please find the attached image) it’s functioning in inverter mode- AC1 Led is off , Inverter Led is on and charging is off. In the specification it is mentioned the AC range (165-280vac)
Attachment not found.
Attachment not found.
  • When the grid voltage is above 205 Vac it’s charging the battery-AC1 Led is on ,charging led is on and inverting led is off.
Attachment not found.

It’s charging the battery only when the voltage is higher than 205 or else it’s functioning with batteries in inverting mode.

Please help me to sortout this issue ASAP

Your picture shows AC2 the generator input on? No matter, try widening the input frequency and voltage (on the XW6048 advanced settings/ AC settings/ charger settings) to their maximum on whatever input you are using for the grid. How good is your power in Kinshasa? Does the XW try to connect???

Also, check the programmed "acceptable" voltage range...

Many inverters simply pass the AC voltage through to the loads when all is well... For US, roughly from 210 to 264 VAC is "good voltage" for a 240 VAC circuit.

We also have 208 VAC circuits (one leg of a 3 phase power system), so the low voltage would be around 182 VAC... It is possible the inverter is trying to "protect your loads" (and itself/house wiring) because it thinks there is a "brownout" going on.

If you can change the acceptable AC input voltage range to a lower nominal value, that may change its behaviour.

I don't know about the hardware--But what is the "acceptable" voltage range for your appliances?

Yes with the SCP or COMBOX. Widen the specs to their max and test. It would help if you answered all the questions and spend some time writing about this. The advice is only as good as the data you provide.

I concur, use the SCP or Combox to widen the acceptable voltage range, and then it will function there.

Default AC1 voltage range is 212 to 264 VAC L-L. So that could explain AC1 being off at 203 VAC input.
Set table range is 156 - 230 for low and 250 - 280 for high range
AC2 default is 160 low, 276 high. Same settable range.
Frequency default is 55 hz low and 65 hz high. Settable low is 44-59 hz. Settable Hi is 61-70.
What is feeding AC2? That is normally used for Generator/Hydro etc.
My grid is normally around 245 VAC

True AC1 is tighter but he is plugged into AC2 in his picture and he never came back with any reasonable answers. I am guessing he does not have an SCP or combox and so he is busy trying to find one.

Probably true. ComBox is the best way. Love the ability to change setting and see what system is doing from anywhere I have Internet access. Even can use my Android phone with Google Chrome.
Still really wondering what source was giving that low of voltage and what the frequency was? Can't see which source is ON in the shot with the meter. All of the others are Gen or AC2. Also needs to check L-N-L voltages. If I remember correctly need L1-N for voltage sense? For North American Inverter.
Just have to wait for him to come back with some information.
