Which Brand Submersible Pump To Choose?

I had my eye on a Grundfos 16 SQF-10, but I'm wondering if there might be a less expensive submersible pump that will give similar performance.

My well stats: 175' TD, 53' SL, Flow of 50+ GPM. My homeowners Association limits our wells to 15GPM. I'd like to get as close to that as I can.

From what I can figure, the 16 SQF-10 can provide about 15 GPM if I provide it with about 750 watts of DC power from PV cells. 4 PV cells at 185 watts apiece (740 watts total) should just about cover it, no?

Is there any other brand/model submersible pump out there that can match the Grundfos's performance at a lower price?

Another thing to research is sand/sediment in your well water--Some pumps do better than others.

Lorentz is another brand that's quite popular as a direct solar pump. http://www.lorentz.de/

Been trying to find those Lorentz pumps, but can't find anyone who will publish their prices. Any idea how much they cost?

Greetings: Back in December I rcvd a quote on a Lorentz PS1200 controller/HR pump for $2340. Hope this helps.

Lorentz is a modular pump, meaning that the controller, motor and pump are all seperate. For me that's a + as you don't have to replace them all if 1 fails and they seem to be as reliable as any pumps.

Ok, grundfos or Lorentz, both can run on both ac or dc, right?

Either will run on AC or DC with the correct interface.

Grundfos is a bit simpler in this respect as you can use the 101 (I believe) control box that has a pigtail for 110 AC.
Lorentz requires a seperate component that is basically a AC to Dc converter.

Cool. Thinking pv cell primary, generator backup.

I have used several Lorentz pumps and really like the set-up so far. The ones I used can run on one single large panel as opposed to the grundfos which likes the higher voltages and thus more panels.
