Any opinions on HUP Solar Batteries?

The HUP Solar One Batteries look really good on paper. Good warranty (7 year replacement 3 year prorated), nice packaging, nice cell-to-cell interconnection. A little pricey but free shipment. Are they as good as they sound??

    I know several that use the HUPs and all have very glowing reports.
    Sounds like they are very good batteries.

    The only negative I've heard is that it's easy to buy more battery than you can effectively charge.

    Not a bad problem to have, if you really =need= that much capacity.

    I've had a short talk with Al Simpler about the HUP and his "truth batteries" (looks like he's redesigning his web site, been in the business for 35+ years, don't see his batteries on site) and I get the idea they are very similar to large traction batteries used for forklifts.

    Norther Arizona Wind and Sun sell some here.Naws has some good information on site and in the Battery FAQs

    Other sizes available here.
    Home system 4000 watt (Evergreen) array standing, with 2 Midnite Classic Lites,  Midnite E-panel, Magnum MS4024, Prosine 1800(now backup) and Exeltech 1100(former backup...lol), 660 ah 24v Forklift battery(now 10 years old). Off grid for 20 years (if I include 8 months on a bicycle).
    - Assorted other systems, pieces and to many panels in the closet to not do more projects.

    And there are Hawker batteries I've seen too, quite similar to the HUP. I'm thinking of going with them for my next set. (HUP or Hawker), to avoid parallel strings. And if a cell dies, I can replace just a cell, not a battery.

    Hawker does not specifically call out renewable energy (solar) applications, and their other lines seem to be forklift / equipment batteries, and may not be as efficient in recharge (calcium added?)

    HUP wants you to keep a log file of watering, amps, and such, for warranty claims.

    Undercharging batteries reduce their lifespan and most solarone have minimum charging current requirements that seem to exceed solar controllers capabilities. How do we get the best from these batteries?

    Multiple controllers are typically not a problem.
