Re: crosswiring
Do you mean parallel strapping batteries in two or more series strings?
If so, I do not because I feel it masks a single battery going bad where if not parallel strapped I would be able to detect the battery going bad early, possibly preventing damage to other batteries in the series string. -
Re: crosswiringDoes anyone ever crosswire their packs.

Give us a schematic of what you are talking about.Powerfab top of pole PV mount | Listeroid 6/1 w/st5 gen head | XW6048 inverter/chgr | Iota 48V/15A charger | Morningstar 60A MPPT | 48V, 800A NiFe Battery (in series)| 15, Evergreen 205w "12V" PV array on pole | Midnight ePanel | Grundfos 10 SO5-9 with 3 wire Franklin Electric motor (1/2hp 240V 1ph ) on a timer for 3 hr noontime run - Runs off PV ||

Re: crosswiring
you have your standard series negative to positive and then tie the strings together at the end end but the strings are also tied together at each positive
supposed to minimize weak cells

Re: crosswiring
This doesn't sound right or I am missing something? Could you please diagram it? A simple drawing in paint would work... -
Re: crosswiring
take a peek here : http://www.smartgauge.co.uk/batt_con.html about good ways to wire batteries up. The diagonal method is pretty simple, and most folk just overlook it.Powerfab top of pole PV mount | Listeroid 6/1 w/st5 gen head | XW6048 inverter/chgr | Iota 48V/15A charger | Morningstar 60A MPPT | 48V, 800A NiFe Battery (in series)| 15, Evergreen 205w "12V" PV array on pole | Midnight ePanel | Grundfos 10 SO5-9 with 3 wire Franklin Electric motor (1/2hp 240V 1ph ) on a timer for 3 hr noontime run - Runs off PV ||

Re: crosswiring
I think you're talking about interconnecting the series connections between parallel banks. Vis:
(-) Battery A (+) ---- (-) Battery B (+)
(-) Battery C (+) ---- (-) Battery D (+)
Then connecting 'A' and 'C' at (-), 'B' and 'D' at (+), and also the (+) ---- (-) junctions to each other?
Do not do this: it creates "alternate pathways" through the battery banks which can leave one battery out of the charge and/or discharge loop. Rather than equalize the cells it can ruin battery (drawn on but not charged, or left out completely).
In a typical diagonal hook-up, the current could flow through 'A' and 'C' and then through the "double junction" and through 'D', with little or no current going in/out of Battery 'B'.
Mike has kindly linked to the smartgauge diagrams. Go with that. -
Re: crosswiring
I was at a client's site with an installer and I showed him how much variation there is from one interconnection to the other.
In =theory= all of that fancy wiring is worth it. But I've yet to see an install where the connections between the cables and the batteries weren't all over the map, in terms of voltage drop.
