Recycled lead

I read an article that expressed some concern about the lead purity from recycled lead. Of particular concern for lead-acid batteries is copper and nickel contaminates.

Battery leakage can increase from lead that is not of high purity.

I'd suspect it would be hard to create a compound which would be hard to smelt out, between the weight and low melting of lead.
