Sad news,boB Gudgel, Original founder of Trace, Xantrex, Outback, Magnum and Midnite Solar, among others has passed away He was a giant in the Off-Grid world.

    Very sad news !  I remember his email to me when we went offgrid. He had a great sense of humor which he told me we would need. Back then there were not any networked power systems,  he knew they would be a game changer.

    Sounds like he was THE giant. How old was he? I’ve always been fascinated with longevity. 
    First Bank:16 180 watt Grape Solar with  FM80 controller and 3648 Inverter....Fullriver 8D AGM solar batteries. Second Bank/MacGyver Special: 10 165(?) watt BP Solar with Renogy MPPT 40A controller/ and Xantrex C-35 PWM controller/ and Morningstar PWM controller...Cotek 24V PSW inverter....forklift and diesel locomotive batteries

    boB helped me out, understanding things here, and I own many pieces of equipment he had his had direct work in developing. If there's a Hall Of Fame for solar development, I suspect he'll be one of the first inductees...

    I've not been active here much, but ran into boB on Facebook doing what boB does, helping people! He friended me there and I had a bit more exposure to his humor and spirit! I didn't know he was fighting cancer. He made a simple post to his Facebook page sort of letting people know the situation a couple weeks before he passed.

    Home system 4000 watt (Evergreen) array standing, with 2 Midnite Classic Lites,  Midnite E-panel, Magnum MS4024, Prosine 1800(now backup) and Exeltech 1100(former backup...lol), 660 ah 24v Forklift battery(now 10 years old). Off grid for 20 years (if I include 8 months on a bicycle).
    - Assorted other systems, pieces and to many panels in the closet to not do more projects.

    He started the Midnite forum and was always super informative for installers and integrators.
    He also was an amateur radio guy, going way back below.  K7IQ  now SK.
