Diesel truck engines use two big 31 series batteries. Larger diesels use three.

Bought 2 31s, all Sam's had, and 1 deep cycle.

The 31s are absolute junk. Made in April!

CCA almost 1/2 of rated power. Resistance over 5. Good batteries normally have a resistance of 2.5 or less.

This is
disgusting and disturbing.

The Deep cycle battery is ok however

Being occasionally conspiratorially minded - this scenario crossed my mind. These batteries will likely work from now - until next winter.
Lot of strange stuff with the trains, food processing plants, unprecedented wildfires (some in winter), bridges, and bird flu with the cattle/CWD in Texas. Dead batteries next winter guaranteed. But who needs trucks and industrial equipment to work anyway?

These batteries are rated at 950 CCA by the way. Batteries almost always produce more than their ratings when new. This is just bizarre.

Those new 950CCA batteries are now showing, I think, 195CCA. Dead.

Sams refunded the money after performing thei own tests. Now how did these batteries slip past quality control?

"Bought 2 31s, all Sam's had, and 1 deep cycle."

I have two parallel series 31 batteries in my loader/backhoe. The originals lasted 8 or 9 years. I had even removed the steel step and checked the levels a few times over the years. I am now on replacements which are valve regulated and they are holding up the same. I got them from Les Schwab. They can go for several months++ sitting without being used. I also have a 31 in the LT50HD Woodmizer. It is hard on a battery with the electro /  hydraulic and it is holding up fine. I hate battery warranties with a passion.

But I have to ask: you bought two 31s and a deep cycle. Please explain how you used them?

The 31 in the dump trailer was stolen after they cut the cables. Two starter 31s is what they had. Last week they had one 6 volt battery.

110 mile trip as well. Plus other challenges.

The theft thing is really frustrating. But to be honest, if one of us weren't here around the clock it wouldn't be any different. One thing about being far removed is a thief doesn't have to worry about making any noise. Another thing is two friendly but rather possessive 90# Catahoula dogs on the other side of the door.
