8v golf cart batteries,howe to wire for 24V?

I have 6 8v golf cart batteries and I am trying to make 24v?series conection that I used with 4 6v batteries doent work because I am left over with 2 positive and 1 negative?every way that I tried ended up 16v?

Maybe I'm not seein what you're sayin. Edit. Disregard abuse statement for 8 volt batteries.1500W, 6× Schutten 250W Poly panels , Schneider MPPT 60 150 CC, Schneider SW 2524 inverter, 400Ah LFP 24V nominal battery with Battery Bodyguard BMS
Second system 1890W 3 × 300W No name brand poly, 3×330 Sunsolar Poly panels, Morningstar TS 60 PWM controller, no name 2000W inverter 400Ah LFP 24V nominal battery with Daly BMS, used for water pumping and day time air conditioning.
5Kw Yanmar clone single cylinder air cooled diesel generator for rare emergency charging and welding. -
8 (eight) volt batteries... Yes, 3x in series by 2x parallel strings (6 batteries total).
Should work fine. Make sure they are fully charged (or each battery at a similar level a charge--You don't want a discharged battery in series with a charged battery--If you "equalize" the battery bank (over charge at ~30-32 volts), you are pushing excessive charging current through the full battery to get charging current to the discharged battery.
