They really work at correcting PF. And they don't change your bill one bit, because you are not billed for PF. It's a rip-off.

And any PF correction equipment which does is not switched in and out of the circuit along with the major low PF loads (A/C or heat pump compressor motors for example) will likely overcorrect when the equipment is not running and so cause a lower power factor at those times. End result is that it still does not change your bill, but it also does not decrease your very small I₂R losses a much as their analysis indicates either.
I have talked to a few honest electrical contractors who got distributorships and ended up dropping out and refunding the customers' money on their own to maintain good will.
