I read people who used computer tape drives for wind turbine motors. I found a couple and wanted some input if any of these would be good

Motor 1
It is a AC/DC Servo Motor
Manufacturing Code: 12049
P/N 503-979C-1
AC/12 Volt DC
0.5 HP - 0.9 HP
40 to 60 AMPS (Under Rated)
Dimensions (Motor Body): 5 7/8" (L) x 4 3/8" (D)
Dimensions (Spindle/Shaft):
Spindle Dimensions on Left Side of Motor: 1 9/16" (L) x 5/16" (D)
Spindle Dimensions on Right Side of Motor: 2 1/16" (L) x 3/8" (D)
(See above)
4 Leads (Red, Yellow, Green & Blue): 24" Long, 16 AWG

Motor 2
Indiana General MCI JH 110 DC Reel Motor made in Oglesby, Illinois USA.

It is marked 27 V, 2.0 A, 1100 RPM, Continuous Duty
P/N 3310D-10, SP7100C1002 Rev A on the sticker.

It has the reel brake and a Beckman D.C. Tachometer Model 9150 from the Helipot Division in Fullerton, California

Thanks

    1) none of them are "weatherized", all designed for computer rooms

    2) small bearings won't handle propeller loads.

    3) RPM's will need to be stepped up, you will need a gearbox or something, to get
    the RPM's up high enough.

Re: Possible motors for wind turbines

Thanks for the reply. How about this one?

Indiana General Permanent Magnet Motor Generator 24V

    Part No. 4030-26

    HP Part No. 3140-0747-1

Body shaft measures: 7" (Length) x 4" (diameter)
    Keyed Shaft Diameter: 5/8"
    Keyed Shaft Length: 1"
    Permanent magnet. 24V / .5A / 375 RPM
Mount holes on front plate 4 3/8" apart

I literally spent hours trying to find out which motor would work. Is there any sites/recommendations for wind turbine motors?

Well, the RPM's are a much better match, but you still have the bearing problems.

24V x .5 A = 12Watts output. Lot of work, for such little output. Better to
just hook that up to your exer-cycle and peddle in front of your TV.
