First off I just want to say hello and I hope you folks can help out the new guy. Ok now I've been all over the net tring to find detailed info on converting a GM alternator to a PMA all I can find is bits and pieces does anyone know of a link that might have all the info I need ?

Just taket the rotor out of the alternator, keep the shaft, and place magnets, so they fly very close to, but not touching, the windings of the outer housing.
Beyond what I would try in my kitchen.Powerfab top of pole PV mount | Listeroid 6/1 w/st5 gen head | XW6048 inverter/chgr | Iota 48V/15A charger | Morningstar 60A MPPT | 48V, 800A NiFe Battery (in series)| 15, Evergreen 205w "12V" PV array on pole | Midnight ePanel | Grundfos 10 SO5-9 with 3 wire Franklin Electric motor (1/2hp 240V 1ph ) on a timer for 3 hr noontime run - Runs off PV ||

Re: Gm pma
Been to that site not enough detail . does the rectifier come out? And how do you hook up the wires for 3 phase ? Where can I get the doughnut shaped magnet? My son came to me and wants to try some of this wind stuff . Now I dont want to send a ton of money on all this at first . But if it works and my son will stays interested Im willing to go some more steps. Ive seen the magnets they've gluded on and I guess they fall off at high heat . I know theres got to be a super affordable way to do this . Now Ive 4 deepcycle batteries all ready and Ive found affordable blades on ebay. I just dont want to pay $250.00 for a 197? alternator. Now if I can figure how these alternators are done then I can have a couple built for back up. Now I dont wanna sound cheap but damn it am. I bought a corn stove around thanksgiving and we would like to make a backup to start . Thanks the rookies -

Keep the rectifer package, it converts the AC to DC for battery charging.

have ideas, scoraigwind.com has, somewhere, a .pdf of the OLD plan book, that may answer your questions
http://www.otherpower.com/otherpower_wind_alternators.html excerpt:
A normal AC induction motor can be converted into a permanent magnet alternator at very low cost. Our experiments have shown that these conversions produce significant power at very low speeds, but become inefficient quickly at higher power levels.
An induction motor has a center core with no wires in it, just alternating plates of aluminum and steel (it will look smooth from the outside). If you rout a groove in this center core to accept permanent magnets, the unit becomes a permanent magnet alternator! We sell super-powerful neodymium magnets that are shaped and polarized perfectly for this application--check our products page.

Or write to this guy http://www.dualrotor.com/ about 3/4 down is a converted car alternator.Powerfab top of pole PV mount | Listeroid 6/1 w/st5 gen head | XW6048 inverter/chgr | Iota 48V/15A charger | Morningstar 60A MPPT | 48V, 800A NiFe Battery (in series)| 15, Evergreen 205w "12V" PV array on pole | Midnight ePanel | Grundfos 10 SO5-9 with 3 wire Franklin Electric motor (1/2hp 240V 1ph ) on a timer for 3 hr noontime run - Runs off PV ||

Re: Gm pma
Perhaps a site like this will help you understand how the basic car alternator works...
The Three Phase--sort of like using a full wave bridge for rectifying AC... But instead of 4 diodes for a single phase full wave bridge, they use 6.
