20 kV cable cross section

Hello guys,

I want to ask you one question which is not very difficulat but may be somewhere I wrong.

So we have 2500 kW PV power plant. And we want to transfer the produced electricity to the substation which is 1000 m away from plant. So what will be the cross section (mm2) of the 20 KV aluminium cable with max. 3% voltage drop which we want to use. Thanks in advance.

    I read that as 125A (Those are pretty big numbers) But I don't have any specs for Aluminum cables.

    If it was copper, 6,600 feet of OOO cable (electrons need to make a round trip, you need 2 lengths of cable) should do it, if aluminum, you will have to get the specs for the alloy you use, a wild guess would be at least 1 gauge larger, so look at OOOO. When you purchase your Relays, breakers and such, they will have a connector size on them, and that may influence your decision too.

    You may need a steel core cable to hold the weight of the heavy aluminum cable.

    Where is your plant engineer - he would know this stuff off the top of his head.
