Yup, we are getting about 5x as many users here as we were a year ago, so time to rearrange the board a bit to make it more beginner-friendly.

Can a couple of stickies be made for the common questions - just paste them in from some of the Q/A from other posts:

Can I run my fish tank from a $5 car battery maintainer ?

Can't I add some more batteries next year ?

Why does my grid tie take 5 minutes to start up ?

    and so on....

    Add to the sticky:
I bought a 50 dollar solar panel off eBay, I got it real cheap as it's cracked from a drive by in his hood, but seller says its A'ok, where do I plug it in so I can call the electric company to turn off the power, I was told by the eBay seller it would power the house:roll:

Will see what kind of response we get for a few days, then will see what to do.

I don't like to add too many stickies, as it clutters up the thread list.

    50 dollar solar panel

Cracked, I forgot to say it was cracked, but still working, it moves the needle on the meter when in sunlight. I think its a 120V or a 1.2V panel, I cant' tell because my meter is broken.

How about a "New to Alternative Power - read these FAQ's First" forum ? populate it with several links to some of the better posts on the basics, and lock it to read-only.

I can make a sub-forum of this one for that. If we keep getting sufficient participation will probably just do that.

Subcategorizing a forum too much will drive people away, as it's too hard to keep track of things. I've been on forums for a short time that have some 30-50 categories, they were a full time job to keep up with posts on every forum, and since there were so many categories one interest would be spread across several. Not to mention that as someone's interests change they will concentrate on one subforum, then drift off to another subforum, taking their knowledge along with them. This forum, in my opinion, is at the max number of categories needed to sort different information to specific areas. In fact, I kinda see the General forum and the Advanced forum as duplication.

Just my thoughts, to be taken or ignored as needed. :D

    Re: Sweet First Post!!!

If I did a subforum, it would just be for links and stickies, no general posts.

But not going to do anything for at least a couple weeks, to see how it goes.

I may change the "general solar", not decided on that yet. Trying to avoid too much overlap, and as you say - too many categories makes the board seem dead since posts get scattered all over.

That is actually moving gradually to www.windsun.com

Solar-electric is a shared host URL with the main store, and it has some limitations because of that.
