Turning manual choke into automatic?

Long time no log in.
So I’ve looked around a bit and couldn’t find what I was looking for so if you have a link…

I’ve got a Yamaha ef3000ise and I’d love to hook up a magnum ags to it so I can go away for more than a day at a time in the winter. (I tried to hire the neighbour kid to sweep the snow, but they couldn’t get it that timing mattered.)

Problem is the genny has a manual choke. Anyone see it done? A servo? How did they trigger the servo? From the  me-ags-s?

thanks!

Take a look at the "Generator Line'' two wire remote start conversion kits. They make them for most Honda models, they include choke actuators and you might be able to get just the actuator from them.

There are kits available for some Yamahas made by Babbit Online for $129 but they don't make one for the ef3000 (and the kit doesn't seem to include a choke actuator).

Note that unless your generator has a remote start port you will need to add some kind of remote start conversion (or figure out it's internal wiring yourself, make the appropriate connections, add relays, etc. etc.)

The kits for gasoline generators come with a control module that automatically closes the included servo operated choke actuator during the start cycle.

Two wire start works with most inverter's auto-generator start controls and consists simply of closing a wire loop to signal run, opening it to signal stop.

Might be easier to sell your generator and get one that has remote start with auto choke (or get a propane one as they don't need chokes)

Thanks for the info! Yah, I’ve pondered getting a replacement. This always leads me down the path of craziness and I start looking at diesel gensets and the next thing I know i’m lusting after a listeroid. 😂
