Turkey Day Tomorrow.

Hope to hear you all are celebrating tomorrow. I know we are. We are celebrating having it at our daughters house this year.
13 years ago we had our first disaster. After an hour in the old oven the oven stopped working. Mad scramble to find another oven. I drove two towns over to my sister in laws house to complete the turkey. Problem was we didn't invite her.....thank goodness she was at a friend's house.
10 years ago someone who shall remain unnamed decided dish soap would be good to wash the potatoes. We has suds instead of spuds.
8 years ago ole Steve had a brain fart and placed the TWO turkeys in upside down and continued to baste as if nothing was wrong. Contrary to popular belief that doesn't work very well.
5 years ago dear wifey decided Tupperware was in fact designed to be placed in the oven. It dribbled and vacuum deposition coated all the side digs but not the turkey. Yummy
Two years ago our modern Hybrid cooktop / convection oven never heated above 130F. Mad scramble ensued. Lovely daughter ran out and bought a plug-in turkey pot. That year the Cabela's dehydrator did double duty as an oven with a little coaxing
Last year we spent the holiday in fear. Nothing went wrong and we wondered why? What was about to happen. Nuclear War? Armageddon perhaps?
This year we still celebrate the holiday but more importantly we celebrate having it at my daughter's. She's a better cook then my wife anyways..."ducks behind couch".
Happy T-Day!!

That's too many mishaps for one family! With five daughters and twelve grandkids, we were Thanksgiving Day hosts with huge meals for many years. We were lucky and everything went about as smoothly as possible when feeding 30 people or more, but our old house was set up for it. Now the families are spread out from coast to coast so holidays are very low-key for us. But I do miss those days of semi-controlled chaos! We have much to be thankful for and little things seem to have more value to me as I age.Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Dishwasher crapped out yesterday, everyone will pitch in to the clean up! Wife is relived! LOL
Is 15 years too short for a dishwasher? Sales man told me we were lucky it lasted that long, new one to be installed Monday. -
DW won't let ANYONE do the dishes let alone put the stuff away. Somehow I have no problem complying with that demand.
This year we did an African Turkey (guinea fowl) from our stock of security birds. It was marvelous - all dark meat and lucious. Stovetop in a large pan. We've had guineas for quite a while but this is the first time we've eaten one. I've heard that they are horrendously expensive if you find one on a store shelf. Y'know, they don't taste like ticks at all, but I don't know what ticks taste like. Maybe ticks are good and nobody but the guineas know it....Off Grid.
