voltage control

would this work..?you have a wind turbine and want 27-33 volts( 24v battery) out of it but not more. You dont want buy a clipper or controller.
so you run your 1- 6 ga wire into 5 smaller wires. You use components to get the voltage to divide evenly among the wires. 30v becomes
6 v each on 5 wires. On 1 of the wires you put an exit to ground thru a 7 volt zener diode. So as the voltage rises to 7 volts per wire that wire bleeds off its 7 volts. That gets you down to about 28.You also put a 10 volt zener( rough estimate) on another wire so at 50 volts you would lose 17 volts total and get approx. 33 volts. (these values are not exact). You would have to combine the voltages again before the charge hit the batteries. What do you think of this way to avoid overvoltage...??

Give it a whirl, what's the worst that could happen?  fire ?  batteries boiling ?

But first study up on 7 v zener diodes and the other magical components you have not listed

... and where is the current going when the battery is full and it's still windy?
    Off-grid.

The turbine overspeeds, and as it looses blades, it slows back down !   A Clipper box is much more complex than a couple zener diodes on massive heat sinks
(years ago at burning man, in the Alternative Energy Zone camp, there was a running joke about razor blades and wind turbines, and a couple of times, the masts for the turbines buckled in gusts)

I see. So the issue is self-limiting... I had a thought that as blades came off, the rotor would become unbalanced and the tower would do a dancing Gumby sort of thing

I don't want to buy a $1100 clipper for my KT5 12v micro turbine but rather make something myself, like mentioned b4 zener diodes and movs and I found a over under voltage relais with a din rail to protect sensitive appliances, eBay: GRV8-02 Single-phase Voltage Control Monitoring Relay Over Voltage Protection, now all this I am going to put together soon, to protect my MPPT midnite solar 150 in case it switches to none charging mode for whatever reason and voltage goes up, any more ideas? Thanks.

Don't forget the heat sinks !

Half the purpose of turbine protection is Over Voltage,  the other thing is Overspeed.  You need a bank of load resistors to switch in to load the turbine down to prevent overspeed.   For hydro, I like a remote actuated valve, and shut down the water supply, saves wear & tear and also water.
