If you have not heard, George Martin's son remixed alot of the Beatle albums recently. They really sound amazing and less dated. More alive! Worth the money for sure.

The Beatles: 50 Years of Abbey Road

Fifty years ago, The Beatles’ seminal album, Abbey Road was released. Widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time, Abbey Road featured some of The Beatles’ biggest hits, including “Come Together,” “Something,” and “Here Comes The Sun.” Listen to these classic songs, as well as demos, outtakes, and more on the newly released Abbey Road (Super Deluxe Edition).

AC DC the about the oldest rock and roll (next to the Stones) band is in the studio up in Canada doing another album and will tour in 2020. Their youtube vids are about as good as they get if you like a bit high voltage rock and roll, now and then.

If you are interested in Marshall tube amplifiers these guys wrote the book on touring with these amps.

The big change in sound equipment came in 1970 when Amplifiers like the Crown DC 300 upped the power and JBL and Altec speakers were not able to handle it. Bands were getting more high tech and needed a person to mix down the sound and keep the instruments " In phase ". These bands made it as keeping the bass in Phase ( AC/DC ) was a key factor. In Phase generally means all speakers will be pushing out at the same time ( which is the positive on most speakers except JBL ). Setting up all the instruments and PA on stage to be "In Phase" is tricky and a good ear helps a lot. When tubes went out and solid state came in there was a great loss in flavor. To get some of this back in concert a good ear by the mix down man made all the difference. A Hammond B3 that was all tubes needed to be Amped in concert and if not done right would sound like crap. AC/DC knew what they were doing.

Two kinds of music. Good or bad.  The other saying is country and western which is the Ken Burns latest Docu on PBS. It is still streaming on your local PBS for bit longer. Really excellent.

The other thing that AC/ DC does is run all  10 to 20 of the Marshall tube amps thru a power supply set at 234vac and the frequency that the factory uses. No matter where they play they get the maximum tube life and the best sound. The set the bias on the output stage by ear. There is a sweet spot when it is correct. Jim Marshall the inventor/owner had a cal procedure that he said was not as good as setting it by ear.

I could go on and on about Marshall but it is pretty nerdy. Some really nice Youtubes but not many good sound/vid ones before 1975 or so.

We prefer the music we grew up with. No surprise there. Thing I admire about 60's music is the creation of beautiful music with just vocals, a guitar and maybe another instrument or two. A "musical purity of sorts" is the result.

Remember when great bands often stayed together and produced smash album after smash album? Yea - those were the days. It helped that everyone didn't need to be the the lead singer.

I really like it all except most of the new music (excepting classical and jazz). Not alot of really half decent music these days unless it it the old folks out touring. I saw Marc Knopfler recently and he was amazing. Below Marc was on youtube.

My old friend/cousin always relates music to politics. He says things like we get such crappy music now because of the crappy politics. He is a drummer and likes to pound things so I stand back when he starts raving about how bad it is in Salem Or.  His Lounge Cristos is great. Shameless plug for one of the best places to go listen to live Jazz and best food/drinks on the west coast.
