I guess I should clarify, there is a "does this answer the question, y or n." I think this is what is promoting the posts.

you are right on on that Bill, I for one favour "Kill it'  ,  confusing to say the least..

Promoted sounds like  a sales gimmick

My belief is that this out of order sorting just "kills" discussions (very confusing at to what you questions/answers you have a comment about).

Agree, whatever may be re-ordering posts should go away.

Also ask about the broken pic links.

I see users join date and how many post they made.

Is there an option to see the date / time stamp of each post as well as the post number in a thread?
Unless I am just not looking in the right spot?

If you hover your mouse over the post "date", it will show you the exact date and time.

Regarding post numbers, I have asked multiple times for "soft" post numbering (numbers are generated when the thread is displayed). The software guys want to avoid "hard coding" post numbering--If a post is deleted or moved into the spam queue temporarily, or posts are split to new threads, then the post numbering would be all messed up, My personal opinion is that "soft post numbering" (numbers based on current posts in thread) is good enough--We do not split threads/have much spam that would cause much confusion down the road (if posts are renumbered--we just would live with it).

I have asked our support person again about full post date+time on all posts, and to add "soft numbering" of posts. As well as remind about the questions of pictures/attachment problems. As well as making post ordering on date/time only, and no "promotion" of "good answers" causing post resorting.

Bill I don't know if you get it but any attachment seems to hog the 'last post designation'

I saw that in one thread--I wanted to get the Q&A answer "post shuffling" turned off first--It seemed that post promotion may have been related. Although, if you have an example, I will be happy to send it on.

I' saw it on one post today but don't remember which one right now...  I'll sleep on it

another issue is an advanced search, so we can search for post/s we or others made.  right now we get too many hits, like fridge, > 10 pages

Fridge on google (limited to this site):

    https://www.google.com/search?q=site:forum.solar-electric.com+fridge&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=ubuntu&channel=fs

    Gives 2,550 hits

Add WestBranch.... 916 hits on Google

Do advanced forum search for "fridge" and user "westbranch", get 101 results:

    http://forum.solar-electric.com/search?adv=1&search=fridge&title=&author=westbranch&cat=all&tags=&discussion_d=1&discussion_question=1&discussion_poll=1&comment_c=1&comment_answer=1&within=1+day&date=

If your question is "do we have an advanced search"--Yes we do, the way I get to it (results above), is to type a word in the Search Box, and then get to the search results screen. There is a down triangle on the right side of the search. Push that and you will get the "advanced search" options. Is this what you are looking for/asking about?

    Thank BB.
Suggestion: I have seen on other forums where post are numbered, when a post is deleted / moved, a one liner stays of the post, to keep the numbering sequential.
    On liner along : Post moved/deleted, User / Date/ Time / Post #.

That would be a good idea--However, at this time, I do not think I could swing that new function for our forum.

It is not too often that we loose a post in the middle of a thread. So, hopefully, that will not be a big problem.

Also, I am asking that all posts have full date:time (Jan 20, 2016 9:24PM) instead of the dates that slowly devolve from 9:24PM (today) to Jan 2016 over time.

Last idea. When the email arrives to inform one of a post, could it maybe include part or all of the text?

I can ask--But I wanted to have 1 email sent when a new post is made since last login.... Not a new email for each post--Keeps your inbox a bit less cluttered.

    Speaking of Deleting things;

How do we Delete our own posts?

    How do we Delete PMs?

    How do we Delete Notifications?

AND, I  CONSTANTLY am damaging a Post that is being composed by Right-Clicking to Paste something into a post.    This misstep causes the Forum software to hiccup,  and blow up the post,  and it us usually not recoverable,  or at least not fully.

Wonder just why that this is the ONLY application in my universe that not only does not implement Right-clicking,  but actually partially destroys what has been previously typed ??

100.00000000 % of all other applications that I have ever used (for text input)  have ALL allowed this approach,  and NONE of these other applications have caused any of the previously-written text to become damaged.

After many,  many decades of right-clicking  this is not a conscious act,  it is a REFLEX  --  think that it comes from the spinal cord,  not the brain.

What is it about Vanilla,  that makes its Authors so compelled to make things incomprehensibly convoluted,  backward,  counterintuitive with mystery spots and smudges on the screen as sometime avenues for control ?

    Just askin'   Thanks,    Cranky Vic

The operating environment here,  is very,  very traditional ...   Win 7 HPE on a Toshiba Laptop,  and IE 11.   Nothing else ...   would expect that at least 70% of the "market" is nominally like this ...

Well I am with Vic , partly, try to copy some text from another post in the thread that you want to use to start the comment... and then try right click to paste it and , you get.... w a i t  for it..... nothing...

But, after you have  typed something in the box, you will get.....

OK,  Fine,  thanks Mt Don and techntrek.

??? I dont understand why it does this... Oh ya and it is difficult to
turn off the  Italics... because the 'markers' that indicate  it is italicized are hidden...grrr...

I am watching--But until we can figure out how to repeat the edit box issues--I will not bother the support folks. I have some other stuff already on their place, and made a general recommendation that end users really care about look and feel--And that the best server farm in the world is sort of transparent at this level (unless something breaks).

AND,  still,  why is it that with my defective/sub-standard operating environment,  that this is the ONLY site or application that exhibits this behavior ...  am on six or seven other Forums,  and they ALL behave predictably,  consistently,  and in compliance with the traditional use of keyboard commands that have been used for decade after decade ?

    Just wondering ...   Thanks,   Vic
