Inverter Purchase Advice Request

I just bought four Trojan L16RE-B 370AH batteries from our host. Now I want to buy an inverter that can meet the following specs: can output 2000 watts continuously, able to surge for 200 milliseconds at 4800 watts (well pump), able to run with battery voltages up 15.9 volts (equalization). Would prefer 12 volt operation, but willing to do 24 volts. Under $2000 would be a bonus (my current inverter is a Xantrex PROwatt SW2000 that I paid all of $375 for). And it's got to be reliable enough that no websites are offering refurbished units for sale. So far the ONLY inverter I've found meeting all of the above is an Outback FX2524T for $1633(arrrgh!). If I have to get a Mate, then that's another $214, for a total of $1847. So I'm asking: #1 is there a cheaper alternative that meets ALL of the earlier specs, and if not,then #2 Do I really need the Mate if all I want to do is charge my batteries from my panels, run my loads, occasionally equalize, and in winter charge from the power line/generator? Would the default settings allow this without buying a Mate? Thanks for all and any suggestions...
