I'm leaving well enough alone. Mine is working fine as received from the factory and I've heard too many horror stories, the results of attempted updates. -
Re: Classic firmware update
What a PITA. I finally got it to update. You have to update the driver, and assign the USB to port eight. The driver is updated from windows (already in the computer). You just have to follow the Midnite instructions to a tea. http://www.midnitesolar.com/firmware/Win8_firmware_update.pdf From what I have read if you have updated to Windows 8.1 you may have some additional problems. I tried an old XP laptop but it was not wyfi so I gave that up pretty quick. -

Sadly, I seem to have a bum version of the firmware destined for Antarctica, as there is some warming function that keeps the heatsinks toasty all night, so there is no thermal shock when the sun comes up. The cable for the controller is in conduit, so I can't get my clamp on meter on it, but I figure from the heat, I'm loosing 30 watts or so, when it's supposed to be sleeping.
Attachment not found.
I've followed all 15 pages of the steps to install the driver, and configured to port8, and got nowhere. Now that I'm back home, I'll look more this next week at saving some nighttime powerPowerfab top of pole PV mount | Listeroid 6/1 w/st5 gen head | XW6048 inverter/chgr | Iota 48V/15A charger | Morningstar 60A MPPT | 48V, 800A NiFe Battery (in series)| 15, Evergreen 205w "12V" PV array on pole | Midnight ePanel | Grundfos 10 SO5-9 with 3 wire Franklin Electric motor (1/2hp 240V 1ph ) on a timer for 3 hr noontime run - Runs off PV ||

Horror? I don't need any horror. The wizzbang jr seemed like an inexpensive battery monitor solution, and the firmware that came with the CC didn't support it. I didn't get it completely set up much less putting my settings for the classic back in after re-setting it to it's defaults. It got late and the sun was too low to play with it much. Hope to come back with a good report tomorrow, but I really don't have the experience with solar in the first place to be of much help to anyone on this forum. -
Re: Classic firmware update
From MY point of knowing W7 , W8- And later . For all the software updates & firmware that I do , if the unit was in the XP area , don't tread out of the back-2-future . Stay with XP , I have set my XP machines up just for this.
My Views on MS after XP is RUDE + so no need in venting, Abacus is back in style
