Any suggestions on an economical crimper that does an adequate job on 10 to 4 AWG terminal connectors??
Or reference to a do-it-yourself method???
Thanks

I've looked at the impact type crimper, but would prefer the precision and control of a "pliers" type crimper.
Thanks for the suggestions, though. -

then you want to go for a hydraulic crimper. I have one like this one ( not a recommendation for any specific one)
http://www.ebay.com/bhp/hydraulic-crimping-tool
and it works well up to 2/00. Bought mine in Canada though.

Re: Need Crimper for 12 AWG to 4 AWG Wire Sizes
Any of these China hydraulic tools with a 70MM die will crimp 4/0 Welding cable with Standard Battery Lugs. They will not crimp Lugs that are called HEAVY DUTY Lugs ( thick barrel, that no one uses anyway ). Even the standard lugs are a little tricky to get in between the dies, but once figure them out it's easy to do, wiggle the post hole end in first. -
Re: Need Crimper for 12 AWG to 4 AWG Wire Sizes
I got mine at HarborFreight (http://www.harborfreight.com/hydraulic-wire-crimping-tool-66150.html) . One similar to the eBay link and I used a 20% off coupon when it was on sale. It says up to 0 gauge but I used it with 2/0 and with heavy duty lugs (the thick ones). It was tricky with those as I had to apply pressure at two places on the lug (but still along the same circumference line) worked great. -
Re: Need Crimper for 12 AWG to 4 AWG Wire Sizes
I got a harbor freight hydraulic type crimper so I could crimp my splices on my grounding cables. I used Burndy splices and had to grind out one of the die heads to fit the burndys. Not exactly to code as the die is supposed to match up with the splice but in my area most electricians use split nuts (not code for ground splices) so everyone was happy that I crimped mine. -
