I lost mine do to a lighting, It was about 10 years old (4024 plus).
3500-4000w and would like Gen and ac in put, I will not be feeding the grid. ( I have a small Ac line feed 1000' from my barn)
Of all the brands what would you all think is the best for my needs.
Thanks Brian

    I sort of asked the same question in this thread http://forum.solar-electric.com/showthread.php?19996-240-vs-120-volt-inverters it was pretty educational for me but I am a lowly noob.

    I am going with a 48/240 volt split phase unit like this. http://www.solar-electric.com/xaxw12hyin.html There are other brands but this one can use batteries, a generator, and the grid for pretty much whatever situation might come up. You can even feed the grid to cut down on your electric bill if you choose to. I have not made my purchase yet. Gotta sell flip a couple of cars first. There are others on this forum that can answer any questions much better than me. I pretty much a question asker so far.

    If your were happy with your old inverter, Schneider (formerly Xantrex/Trace) is making a new 4024 at a reasonable price point, suggested @$2000 discounted @$1400, there is a thread here;

    Home system 4000 watt (Evergreen) array standing, with 2 Midnite Classic Lites,  Midnite E-panel, Magnum MS4024, Prosine 1800(now backup) and Exeltech 1100(former backup...lol), 660 ah 24v Forklift battery(now 10 years old). Off grid for 20 years (if I include 8 months on a bicycle).
    - Assorted other systems, pieces and to many panels in the closet to not do more projects.
