Mitsubishi 225w less than dollar/watt

Hi Guys,

I found a really good deal locally on this Mitsubishi Brand new 225W 220Each :D, the cost is less than dollar per watt. The down side is that they are poly cells, I read it somewhere that poly cells are less efficient than mono cells. What do you think should I go for it? Also see below for the spec-sheet.

    Question is does it fit your system/application? If yes and you have the room to mount them, price per watt comes into play. Not sure about the derating over time.

    In general, the only major difference between poly and mono cells is that you get a bit more Watts per square foot with mono-crystalline panels--Plus poly panels look a bit like "shattered glass" and Mono crystalline panels look uniform (multiple vs single crystals).

    In terms of life, both should last a long time.

    Unless you have to get the most watts from a small roof area (example), mostly purchase P vs M panels on $$$/Watt pricing.

    Might want to confirm what MC type connector they have... "old" is MC3 and new/current is MC4 Locking type connector (same pins, different housings?).

    As Bill stated these might not be correct for your system, these are designed for use with a grid tied or Mppt Controller, if you plan on a small battery system these would be expensin=ve to use, MPPT controlers aren't cheap.
    Home system 4000 watt (Evergreen) array standing, with 2 Midnite Classic Lites,  Midnite E-panel, Magnum MS4024, Prosine 1800(now backup) and Exeltech 1100(former backup...lol), 660 ah 24v Forklift battery(now 10 years old). Off grid for 20 years (if I include 8 months on a bicycle).
    - Assorted other systems, pieces and to many panels in the closet to not do more projects.

    They come with MC4 connectors. I originally want to build my system on a ground mount with 120W panels. i bought a mono 120W for close to 200 dollars a piece, 4 x 200 = 800. My goodness i can spend half the price if i go with poly with almost the same wattage 450W poly vs 480W mono. Anyways these panels are ~ 5x3 ft, they are huge, so i will putting them on my roof instead. Space is not a problem for me. Its hard to find solar panels this cheap, grabbing 2 for my off grid setup if they aren't much difference.

    120 watts is about what you'll get out of these if your not using an MPPT controller...

    Ok now you have complicated things by introducing 4 - 120W panels.
    What kind of Charge controller do you have and what are its limits for input?
    Do the Imp and/or Vmp match? ? In series hook up you have to match Imp. In Parallel you have to match Vmp. From what you have presented so far you have a mismatch here. It can work but not optimally.

    Sorry for the confusion, it is just a comparison how much it will cost mono vs poly. I purchased a 120W panel before anything else, costly newbie mistake lol. Wish i saw this Mitsubishi deal earlier. my point is it is cheap for me to go with poly pvs.

    If you are curious what my setup will be. Thanks BB for the help.
    1x Rogue mppt 3024 charge controller
    2x 225 Mitsubishi pv (parallel array)
    2x trojan t-105
    1x morningstar 300w inverter
    a bluesea disconnect switch and some fuese to put in between.

    Can't wait to put everything together over the weekend.

    you did not mention the batteries...

    At that low price if you expect to add more best get them now , that is a lowwwww price, and they may not be available later if you decide to add.

    That is a discontinued panel, I think replaced by the much newer 235 watt, but at that price it is still a pretty good deal. Unlikely you will be able to find an exact match in the future though.

    Check to make sure it is the UL approved version - not all panels coming in on the "grey market" are UL. Won't matter for a standalone battery charging system but for roof mount or grid tie it will.
