Hi,
Do you think it's possible to buy the components and hire an electrician to hook up batteries, etc. without going through a regular installer?

    Don't be surprised if the electrician is not at all familiar with any of it. In general they work in a different area of electrical and have little or no contact, or experience with off grid. All of which can lead to grief for you.

    installing the actual panels on the ground or on the roof yourself is pretty straight forward DIY kind of stuff.
