Destructive Renewables

Solar Expert Posts: 93 ✭✭✭
Just when I was starting to feel good about making a few solar KWH's, this comes along.

While the panel discussion deals mostly with wind, PV is mentioned sucking the life out of our Sun.

Hope the link works as this is a must see for all who are interested in renewable energy.

It's all for a laugh, the Onion is a satirical newspaper. Even international newspapers have been fooled before: http://www.wired.com/culture/lifestyle/news/2002/06/53048

    Re: Destructive Renewables

I look at wind turbines like the old water wheels of years past. They would suck some energy out of the river and seems like that would make it least damaging as the water went down stream. The more wind turbines that are installed the less wind there will be down wind from them as every turbine grabs its minute little amount of energy from the wind.

PV on the other hand is absorbing the suns energy before it hits whatever the pv is covering (IE your house). My 3kw of pv is not going to suck any extra sun that may be hitting my garden lets say just what it directly shades. Now for sucking the life out of the sun that's a good one I do not even want to think about how to argue that one.

Of course I do go by Halfcrazy :) so take it for what it is worth and with inflation that is likely to be a negative number.
