...until the sun gets above the trees at the top of the canyon for at least half the daylight hours! Woo-hoo! There's not much to do about the constant heavy overcast but wait for March.

Kind of have a similiar predicament here, except not as bad as your location with your north slope shading your panels behind the tree line.An eigth of a mile to my SSW I have a hill that rises in elevation 350 feet above me which blocks the sun in the mornings. So I get partial shading from Dec. 10 through Jan. 20 or so.Since this day has passed I start getting charge parametes met by 9:30 am every morning on sunny days.I even have to start turning on electric heat to utilize the solar capability on sunny days.

Hope you can get to 100% more often without the generator running, soon.We take advantage of the Oak as solar storage, photosynthesis production. We place the "Solar storage" in the firebox one piece at a time. Its 18° outside this morning and 68° in the house. Heat gain at night without sun light!Interesting article on CO2 research has been floating around on different web sites lately. As the C02 increases in the atmosphere the rate of CO2 absortion in oak trees increases and has shown a 30% increase in the photosythesis process.

No generator run yesterday - got to 96.5% by 2:30 in the afternoon but then the sun was getting blocked. This AM the batteries were down to approx 65%. So even with the completely clear sky we probably won't get into the 90% range by the time the panels start to get shaded. But it is just glorious to finally start saving some fuel. And my old panels really like the cold temps!Off Grid.
