Xantrex DC Disconnects on hold

Does anybody know more about the hold Xantrex has placed on GT inverters? Apparently there was a house fire or something that was blamed on the inverter's DC disconnect and they have halted production. I can't get any info out of Xantrex about how long this will go on. We have several projects on hold as a result and I do not want to switch brands as will have to resubmit paperwork and wait anyway.

    was that one of the fires that were reported here in this section of the forum by backroad or sundiego? btw, that is spelled xantrex.;)

    First i have heard of it i have several Xantrex inverters out there and have multiple systems quoted with them i will have to give my supplier a call.

    Looks like you are right but they expect to start shipping again on april 5 so if that is in keeping with xantrex we should be able to get them again by July.

    I wonder if there will be a recall on existing units? do you have any more info on the fire and its causes? was the disconect switched under load?

    I'd heard something about the DC disconnect was a pair of AC switches, and had a limited lifetime of full load switching - something about 50 cycles, under full load, and then the HV DC arc really started to chew it up. SG can likely explain it's setup better than I, or I've made a mistake. Back the the margaritas!

    Xantrex has today issued a notice releasing the stop ship on its GT inverters.

    They say that testing has shown there to be no problem however have issued a bulletin advising how to test existing units to make sure of this.
