I am building 2 out buildings. 1 garage for gernal storage and a barn for horses. Both will be approximately 40'x40'. I am debating a wind turbine to provide electricity. We are located in Indiana with open fields in all directions for 3/4 to 1 1/2 miles, and a constant 7-10 mph wind. All I want to do is provide electricity for lighting and maybe a small hand tppl from time to time.

Can I install a wind turbine that directly powers electric via an inverter without having to install battery banks?

Most turbines need 10-15mph wind to produce any usable power

I'd suggest skip the mechanical turbine and all it's maintenance and just put up a solar panel and use a single 12V battery .  Some LED lights and you are all set
