According to this we currently have six major lithium ion chemistry's. Or should we say metal make-ups? Musk argues that they should not even be called lithium batteries and he is right for the most part. Our "lithium" batteries are primarily made from varying amounts of nickel and manganese and cobalt and aluminum and graphite and phosphate. 

Having studied the above article awhile, I am curious about all the discussions making blanket assertions about lithium batteries. Lithium battery "chemistry's" vary greatly in all of the major parameters. For example consider the energy density offered by six major chemistry's. 

First Bank:16 180 watt Grape Solar with  FM80 controller and 3648 Inverter....Fullriver 8D AGM solar batteries. Second Bank/MacGyver Special: 10 165(?) watt BP Solar with Renogy MPPT 40A controller/ and Xantrex C-35 PWM controller/ and Morningstar PWM controller...Cotek 24V PSW inverter....forklift and diesel locomotive batteries
