Water heater in battery room
My new battery room will accommodate my 8 trojan l16re batteries that will be housed in a battery box, and I'd like to include my gas fired water heater. The room is 169 sq. feet. I'm looking into sealed combustion heaters which utilize outside air for combustion - that would be my preference - and I'm thinking that it should be a safe situation. Any thoughts on this?
Also, given the size of the room and if I vent the battery box to the outside would a standard water heater be a potential problem?
Thanks, Daniel

I would never locate flame in a battery room, no matter what venting you had

Even if the unit utilizes sealed combustion?

I would not do it myself. or suggest it would be safe to do.

If the room were larger I might think this is OK . Like a garage and sealed combustion.
The only problem in my mind with venting to the outside is when the vent fan fails. I like a big room with an open style battery box with a means to secure the top from cats and kids, a plastic acid tarp underneath, and a smoke alarm/extinguisher. I do not like to see a sealed box (inside) as they always seem to increase corrosion. Easy access is very important.

Hydrogen gas as generated by battery gassing burns at 6250 feet per second! That's a mile and a quarter per second! When Three Mile Island Nuclear power plant blew up they said they had a "rapid hydrogen burn" yeah right!
At Fukushima they admitted they had a hydrogen explosion, did you see the videos?
Absolutely no way would I put hydrogen gas anywhere near a flame even if the battery box had positive ventilation and the heater had sealed burners. Not ever
