Check with Trojan if the SIND line is available in New Zealand , they are designed for solar use, only thing I can see is a lower SG than their traction type batteries, but good to see charging rate and absorbtion hours stated, unlike many with charging rates based on grid charging. Flooded are always the  better choice, In my opinion.

+1 on plain FLA. As well as trojans, I think US battery and other big outfits have NZ distibution.

If you have a good supply of "cheap" distilled water and can possibly add some solar panels (10-30% more--Depends on your current power usage, battery bank, array size, etc.), you might look at forklift/traction batteries.

Some issues with forklift batteries tend to include
    • higher charging voltages (16/32/64 volts) which can be an issue for some inverters and battery chargers.
    • Higher distilled water usage (and smaller reservoir in cells means checking levels more often).
    • And that one battery can way 1/2 to 1+ ton very easily (need crane/concrete floor/lift gate/loading dock to move).
    • Need a larger solar array because charging forklift batteries tends to be less efficient/higher self discharge rates.
The individual cells in many FL batteries are replaceable--A few folks have gotten used batteries, replaced a couple bad cells, and then used for many more years.

Thanks for replys . will check out if the trojan snd06610 is available here . thanks for the link . the specs certainly look good . good to see the cycle / depth of charge curve . looks impressive.
Bill thanks for the info about fork lift battery's ... but to get more pv id need another charge controller and not keen on the weights.
And also thanks to you for your input on this site I certainly appreciate it ..
of course thanks to other contributers .

I can't find the warranty listed on Trojan's warranty page.      Does anybody know what the warranty is?

Here is a supplier who sells Hoppecke batteries in New Zealand, they are supposed to be an excellent product
