    The EGR cooler would be a little small would it not? A purpose built exchanger would  be the way to go, finances permitting.

    @mcgivor  the isx is a big engine the EGR cooler is 24 inches long, its 2x the 6 kw exchanger.. and its free

    Can't beat free, had no idea it was so large, mostly I've worked on smaller diesels 1.6 to 4 liter and most of those had no EGR. Good for you hope it works out well, keep us updated on your progress, interesting stuff.

    I used a stainless steel swimming pool water to water heat heat exchanger.
    Works good ,egt in around 800F. and egt out 350F. So far it's held up good,and with the threaded connections it was fairly easy to hook up.
    It's starting to soot up alittle so the temp out has been rising slightly.
    What ever you use plan on cleaning it out at some point.

    I have thought about a easier design,where the exhaust goes through a pipe(or 2 or 3) surrounded by a larger "buffer tank",with the engine coolant also plumbed to this tank. Then draw the heat for your heating system off of this tank. Would simplify piping as it's a challenge to get all the flow rates right through multiple heat exchangers.

    EGR coolers can found in everything from car applications all the way up to big rig size and everything in between.

    Solar hybrid gasoline generator, 7kw gas, 180 watts of solar, Morningstar 15 amp MPPT, group 31 AGM, 900 watt kisae inverter.

    Solar roof top GMC suburban, a normal 3/4 ton suburban with 180 watts of panels on the roof and 10 amp genasun MPPT, 2000w samlex pure sine wave inverter, 12v gast and ARB air compressors.
