was wondering if anybody uses systems like the BGAN systems for internet at their travel/remote homes and what you think of it.
I am interested in mobile broadband non cellular and the best deals for a portable antenna set up.Like this but cheaper...

Unless you have money to burn, it's not viable as anything but an emergency lifeline in places with no cell coverage. In addition to the high equipment costs, it runs dollars per *megabyte*, as compared to per gigabyte for cellular. This page is several megabytes. Just one discussion page, and it would cost you the price of a meal at a chain restaurant to read it. Streaming a movie from Netflix would cost the equivalent of buying a car.

Here is some pricing:
http://www.groundcontrol.com/Hughes_9502_M2M_BGAN.htmIt is a high-speed, real-time Ethernet port to the Internet for any TCP-IP/Serial M2M, SCADA device.-Bill
The connection is always live 24 hours a day 7 days a week from most locations on the globe. map
It operates in extreme hot or cold temperatures -40°F to 167°F (-40° to 75° C) using only 4 watts.
Can use special BGAN M2M service with that does not charge for overhead networking costs.
Poll remote equipment for 1 to 2 cents per poll (if under 1 Kilobyte). This is a great deal!
Poll remote equipment 2,000 to 20,000 times per month for $47 to $158 per month!
BGAN M2M service only bills for the meaningful data transferred through the terminal, and not for

The data connection is open, and stays alive. No wake-up operation needed to transmit/receive.
It is secure from hackers with powerful firewall rules in place, or use a private network for ultimate.

I use my cell phone as a 4G hot spot for my home internet. Used to manage with 6Gb plan at $80, but video ads on many web pages have pushed me into a 12GB plan.
roughly $50 for 0.02 Gb That is VERY expensive

Our ATT plan was just upgraded to unlimited data because of bundled satellite TV. Basically with unlimited data we can give up home internet and use the hotspot feature on our phones. The have also given us free talk, text and 1Gb. of data while in Mexico. I have finally gotten "free" internet while in Baja, awesome.
2.1 Kw Suntech 175 mono, Classic 200, Trace SW 4024 ( 15 years old but brand new out of sealed factory box Jan. 2015), Bogart Tri-metric, 460 Ah. 24 volt LiFePo4 battery bank. Plenty of Baja Sea of Cortez sunshine.
