MTTP controller sez "overcharge" (some times )

Hello, The 30 amp MTTP controller on my 400 watt system sez that is over charging the batteries some times,, that can't be good...
What is the most likely issue, please??? Just learning,,,,

    What controller is it exactly?
    Also, are there any other charging sources connected?

    Do you have a volt meter (that you trust) so you can measure the voltage at the battery / battery bank (and individual cells/batteries)?

    While you are at it, if you have around $50 to spare, get a Sears multimeter with DC clamp-on ammeter function. That is a real life saver for PV.
    SMA SB 3000, old BP panels.
