Are these Batteries useful for Solar

Hey Guys,

I am looking for batteries for my first solar project. I ran across this:

http://www.npstelecom.com/pdfs/Dyn_UPS/UPS_12-370.pdf

They are used, and "suppose to be 2 years old." I am not sure what all the specs are telling me. I am very cautious about buying things.....Please shoot this down if it is a waste of time.

Thank you for any input.

Best Regards,
Jim

    Three inputs:
    • If you can get then close to their scrap value as lead, it may be worth a try, especially for a learning project.
    • It is important to know that they have been kept properly charged, but if they were in a UPS most of that two years that part should be fine too.
    • This kind of battery is designed for a small number of high current discharges (when the power goes out) but a very small number of charge/discharge cycles. (just sitting there most of the time.) That is not good for use in off-grid solar PV, since they will cycle, sometimes deeply, every day.

I had plan as off grid / back up. Many power outages here so would run a few items daily. I really don't think this is what I am looking for. On craigs list $75 each.

You may be right, if you post just what it is you want to run (in Watts per appliance, light etc and total Kwhr), we can guide you to a planned out setup...

as to the batteries these are a good brand, but they are used and you really don't know if they are any good or not. you take a chance on used batteries. unless it can be proven they are good then offer scrap rates as was mentioned.
