Xantrex Ground Fault Detection Circuitry

Has anyone have any experience using the Xantrex Ground Fault Circuitry which is included in the Xantrex XW-MPPT60-150 Charge Controller? I've been looking for the Xantrex GFDI information for awhile and I finally found a little info in the Charge Controller manual. Is the fuse implementation OK or should we use a Circuit Breaker type of GFDI instead? Looks like the fuses cost about $25 ea.

Its code compliant and similar to what the Xantrex GT's do. It is a 1 amp fuse between ground and PV minus. If the PV minus faults, it blows the fuse which the controller detects and shuts down.

There are a couple of app notes on their site.

Thanks for the inputs. I had one of the app notes and I'll get the other one.

I would like to know about this. I have an old system and put in two new Xantrex controllers. Xantrex says I can use fuses from Home Depot? Thanks for your help.

Technically, the typical glass fuses are rated to 125 volts maximum. And the ones used on dc gfi circuits are rated to 600 volts or more.

In reality, it would not change how the circuitry operates.

If you have two controllers, each of them will have a fuse. You need to leave only one fuse, so you will have a spare right away.
