If you feel the base is secure and the panels can be joined safely AND the additional hight won't leverage the lower panel off, its ok with me.  ( What state do you drive in ? )

  The Xanbus is a daisy chain network with a termination at each end. It's unlikely a cable or termination just broke on it's own, but at least check that all are in place
