If you feel the base is secure and the panels can be joined safely AND the additional hight won't leverage the lower panel off, its ok with me.  ( What state do you drive in ? )

  Generally, Desulphators don't hurt. Some will confuse a charge controller with their voltage pulses, so that is a bit of a gamble

  PWM controllers : Amps in = Amps out 18A in, 18A out MPPT controllers : Watts in = Watts out Watts are Volts x Amps 12v x 2A = 24Watts
