ok I am using the cr 396 batteries (6v) I have 4 in total, SO FAR, I have the first 2 6v connected in series to make them 12v. Now I have the solar and the inverter going to battery#1 pos and the 2nd battery (in the 2 battery 6v series) holds the negatives.

NOW I have 2 more cr395's I series them already to make the 12v. I them connected them to the first 2 6v (12v) batteries pos to pos and neg to neg. Now I have to connect the inverter and the solar.

HOW do I do that? Does the inverters POS go to the 1st battery and the neg of the inverter to the 4th battery?

The standard "four 6V balanced battery bank configuration for a 12V system":

    (-) Battery 'A' (+) ---- (-) Battery 'B' (+)
    | n u l l c h a r a c t e r s to fill space |
    (-) Battery 'C' (+) ---- (-) Battery 'D' (+)

    Inverter (-) to Battery 'A' (-)
    Inverter (+) to Battery 'D' (+)

    Charge Controller (-) to Battery 'C' (-)
    Charge Controller (+) to Battery 'B' (+)

Any more batteries in parallel and you need to go with a bus bar.

you got it right if i read you right as you will just tap the negative end of the newer series of 6v batteries so it's +1 and -4. this assumes that all interconnecting battery wires are the same gauge and length for helping to keep that equilibrium too.

    a=1 b=2 c=3 d=4

now that I got that understanding.

battery a's NEG goes to battery b's POS

battery c's neg goes to battery D's pos

battery a's pos goes to battery c's pos

battery b's neg goes to battery d's neg

ok now that the batteries are hooked up in SERIES and in PARALLEL I am going to take the inverter/solar cables + and go to battery a's POS and the inverter/solar cables - and go to battery d's NEG.

If that is the case I will have battery posts that arent being used right?

Only if you don't have a charge controller.
Read my post again, and try to get in synch with the battery & terminal descriptions; always start with Battery 'A' and its negative terminal, which would be (-) for the whole system. Battery 'A' positive goes to the next battery's ('B') negative to "stack" for 12V out of two sixes. Batteries 'C' and 'D' are parallel connections to 'A'-'B' (do NOT interconnect between the A-B and the C-D).
One diagonal set of (-) & (+) powers the inverter, the other diagonal set of (-) & (+) is for the charge controller.

OK, got it all hooked up and I am still alive...LOL Everything is testing 12v and the solar is pumping as we type. I did hook back up the xantrak multicharger and that seems to be working all fine.

    Thanx
