xantrex 1000i

Hi there, im trying to hook up a xantrex prosine 1000i 12v dc to 230v ac, just not sure how to wire to the ac panel, it is a hard wire type, ac in and ac out. when voltage is tested at the ac out side I get 230 across the 2 hots but when tested with 1 hot and ground I get a zero reading. Should there be 120v? This is a off grid system with 2 115w 2v volt panels, and a xantrex 60 mppt charge controler, and four 390 amp 6v batteries. can this inverter be used or do i need to get a 12v dc to 120v ac.
Thanks Tim

The 1000i is an international version, so it only puts out 230-240 volts.

can I still hook it up to 120 each side of the panel?

do not use it. it is for 230vac 50hz which is not a u.s. standard for operation. there is no 120vac on a 230vac 50hz setup. it is incompatible.

I am no expert.. so this is a QUESTION.. not a SOLUTION ...

but .. could he use a transformer... 230v ac in ... center tapped secondary.. with the center GROUNDED to create 2x 120v circuits....

Truely.. he should get a 120v inverter.. or at least a 220v one that provides a center tap ground..
but wouldn't a transformer solve his problem???

No, because you don't HAVE 120 volts from the inverter.

even a transformer that could theoretically work at changing the voltages to a split 115vac would not change the frequency. it just isn't meant for the u.s.. if you just bought it then try to exchange it for a proper u.s. model, otherwise you would have to try to sell it as used and buy the proper inverter.
