A newbie question...1 is a battery senor necessary?
2. where is the best location to place a sensor, my batteries are 4volt Surrette, with a double wall. If I can, would it be a goood idea to lift the top and place sensor inside next to a cell

Fist off what brand of controller or Inverter do you have? It will have specific instructions as to placement of the BTS.
And yes, IMHO a BTS is a good thing to have especially if you are in a colder climate. It allows one to get a right proper charge in the batteries!;)

    cheers

MX60 with VFX 2812. I have found no placement instructions for temp sensor.

Battery terminal post is best as it goes deep into the battery but make sure your sensor base plate is isolated first ( should be )

Post on my batteries were too small to properly secure BTS for MX-60, so located it down between the batteries inside the battery box. Friction fit between the batteries. Seems to be OK there. (my batteries are single walled)

I was told by Surrette that the outer plastic box lid is just a friction fit...there is sealant around the terminals. I slit the sealer, lifted the lid a bit and put the sensor between the outer box and the inner cell. This way, i didn't have to disconnect any cabling, just slip the sensor in where it would be closest to a cell. Works ok...just seal up again with bathroom silicone sealant.
