Kohler 14K back-up generator running too frequently

Hi Folks,
A couple weeks ago our kohler generator started running (and stayed on for an hour or two) sometimes twice a day. The days were sunny (we are off-grid solar), there were no extra loads put on the generator, no extra use of tools, etc etc. The generator exercise function is set to once a month. Basically nothing has changed (and the generator would go on typically once or twice a month during long periods of dark weather.) What could possibly have it running so frequently?

Welcome to the forum CharlieVermont...
What AGS system are you using? How is they system configured (start/stop battery voltage/conditions, etc.)?
I have no special knowledge, but things I would look for.
Check connectors and wiring. Vibration (and sometimes heat) can damage connections (look for browning on connectors, vibration/wear on wiring, loose connections, etc.).
What is the battery bank voltage when the genset starts and stops? And what kinds of batteries/charge controller(s) are you using (lead acid, Lithium Ion, brand/model/integration type of charge controller, etc.)?
What is the amperage/wattage the genset sending to the battery bank? Normal continuous current you have seen over the years, less, or what?

If you are at this location, I would try setting your AGS to manual. Then keep an eye on the system SOC and performance (Charging current levels and loads ect). That would help to narrow down your issue. Is it the AGS system and associated settings OR is it more on the charging side. For example, is your PV array charging properly ? and how is the battery holding up. Could even be a loose connection somewhere...
Check torque on your electrical connections? or bad MC-4 connector.Off-grid: XW+6048 / 48V FLA battery bank (428 A/H (Rolls S-550 batteries)) / Conext MPPT 60 150 charge controller / SCP / Insight gateway / 12 - 260W solar panels / Kohler 12KW 12-RES propane genset
